Surprise Surprise Oil is Expensive

Ever wonder why people dread winter so much?? It’s articles like this one out by Reuters about how energy costs continue to rise and rise and rise. Ugh!! Oil on average will increase 40 cents per gallon from $2.48 to $2.88 per gallon this year.

Natural Gas, which is in the majority of homes in Boston, will stay in check, rising only 10% this year due to growing supplies. We will see about that though as weather forecaster’s see this upcoming winter as colder than last years. Do you think they flip a coin or throw darts when it comes to predicting this stuff?

The big winner this year is Electricity. If they aren’t already, luxury buildings downtown will be marketing the benefits of electric heat vs. all others since the majority of them use electricity to heat and cool there units.

I hope this continues to push demand for solar and geothermal energy. Think of all the smiling faces walking around Boston in February (say 2015) because NStar is sending them a check in stead of the other way around.
